Bsc: Internship Embedded Systems - Media path simulation
Date: 28 Oct 2024
Location: NL
Company: Canon Production Printing
HBO: Internship Embedded Systems - Media path simulation
Canon Production Printing R&D develops new products for the graphics arts market. The department for this assignment is working on Wide Format printers, like the Colorado Roll2Roll and Arizona Flatbed:
Development is done against several levels of simulation. As a software engineer the first simulation you use is the Software In Loop (SIL) simulation. This supports a lot of low level behavior and devices, and allows the implementation of functional behavior needed for verification. Details from this simulated behavior can be analyzed by looking at the device logging or graphs of simulation parameters.
Device logging should not be filled with all the minute details and simulation parameters show partial data that needs a lot of interpretation to understand what is happening.
To provide all engineers with the right overview graphical views are created to show the machine and media state. As the function Media Handling we are in need of an update to the media path simulation to support the requirements of the current printer being developed:
- An updated view to reflect the printer being developed
- Combined functionalities of existing simulators for previous printers
- Additional functionalities that will be further specified under NDA.
The Media Handling function is a multidisciplinary team with Functional Designers, Mechanical -, Electrical -, Mechatronics - and Software Engineers. The function currently has 3 software engineers and the projects has 24 software engineers in total.
Keywords: C++, UML, Scrum, XML, XSL, Eclipse
