Bsc: Internship Mechanical Engineering - Wear and Torque Research of Linear Actuator
Date: 26 Jun 2025
Location: NL
Company: Canon Production Printing
Are you a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student looking for a hands-on internship? Do you want to contribute to the future of sustainable and high-performance actuator systems? We are looking for you!
Your Assignment
In one of our printers, we use a linear actuator with a spindle and a plastic nut containing PFAS additives. For future improvements, we aim to:
- Find a PFAS-free alternative
- Increase axial stiffness
- Reduce wear
- Determine or automate lubrication intervals
A graduate student has already designed and built a dedicated test setup to measure wear and torque. Now, it’s your turn to take the next step: conduct wear and torque research using this setup.
Your tasks will include creating a test plan to evaluate wear, torque, different materials and possibly geometries, stiffness (depending on material and geometry), and lubrication intervals; verifying and improving the test setup if needed; performing experiments; interpreting the test results; and writing recommendations for future development.
Your Profile
- You are currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Bsc level (3rd year)
- You enjoy hands-on testing and mechanical analysis
- You have experience or interest in materials, tribology, and mechanical design
- You’ll need a proactive attitude to make this assignment a success.
- You are available from September 2025 for a period of 5 to 6 months, for at least 4 days per week
What’s in it for you?
- A challenging assignment with skilled coaching from Roy Jacobs
