Bsc/Msc: Engineering Internship - Energy reuse of high energy process steps

Bsc/Msc: Physics, Chem. Technology, Mechanics - Energy reuse of high energy process steps
Are you a BSc or MSc engineering student with a passion for energy efficiency and sustainable production? Do you want to work on real industrial equipment and influence the design of future production machines? We are looking for you!

Your assignment
In our production process of reinforced rubber belts, several steps operate at high temperatures and energy levels. One of the key processes is curing of rubber in superheated steam under pressure inside an autoclave. When the autoclave is opened, a significant amount of energy is released and currently lost. Your assignment is to investigate how this energy can be reused.

You will:
-    Analyse the current curing process and identify where and how energy is lost
-    Explore concepts to recover and reuse thermal energy after opening the autoclave
-    Investigate whether energy storage (thermal or other forms) is technically and economically feasible
-    Evaluate if a lock or intermediate system could reduce energy loss and whether this would be profitable
-    Translate promising concepts into practical ideas for future equipment design

In addition, you will study another high energy process: Stretching of the reinforcing material, where mechanical energy and heat are involved. Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce losses in this process as well

You will work in a multi disciplinary engineering team that focuses on improving production processes, while also being involved in solving day to day operational challenges. This means your work will have direct impact on real manufacturing decisions.

Your profile
•    You are currently studying A BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Energy Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
•    You think it’s a challenge to Analyse complex industrial processes, combine theory with hands on engineering practice and translate technical ideas into feasible and cost effective solutions
•    To be able to fulfil the assignment you have skills such as basic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer and energy systems, analytical and problem solving skills, Interest in sustainability and energy efficiency and the ability to work independently and within a team
•    The assignment can be done as Internship or graduation assignment
•    You are available for 4 to 6 months for a minimum of 4 days per week

What’s in it for you?
•    A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
•    Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
•    Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
•    The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
