Bsc/Msc - Internship Applied Physics - Doing the unexpected with UV curing
Doing the unexpected with UV curing

Ever scratched a poster or a painted wall and watched the paint peel off like a sticker? Kind of satisfying… but also kind of disappointing, right?
What if you could help change that?

Join us in revolutionizing the world of print — we’re on a mission to create prints that stay flawless, no matter what surface they’re on. Whether it’s walls, buses, packaging, or products, our goal is to make print that sticks — beautifully and permanently.
If you're curious, hands-on, and ready to get your ideas and scientific knowledge out into the real world (literally), this internship is for you. Let’s build a future where nothing peels away — not even your potential.

Your assignment
This assignment focuses on the use of UV inkjet technology for producing high-quality Graphic Art prints. With UV inkjet technology ink that has been jetted onto a print medium is cured to form a robust polymerized layer by using illumination with UV light.
Canon has developed a unique variant on UV technology, called UV gel technology. With UV gel technology, the ink has a unique composition, and also the UV curing function that is used is quite different from that used with conventional UV technology. The first printers (Colorado 1630 and M-series) based on this technology have successfully been introduced.
With the UV curing function employed in these printers, we not only polymerize the ink, but with clever curing we also succeed in making matte prints and glossy prints with the same ink, and even in combining matte and gloss in the same print.

And still, there is much more to explore and discover with the curing function. Think about, amongst others:
- How to make a printer that is much faster than we could imagine (of course, for a competitive price),
- How to tune the flexibility or hardness of cured ink layers with the same ink,
- How to print on surfaces that seem to be incompatible with the ink.

Are you in for a challenge to convert vague theoretical ideas into practical solutions that can be used in a printer? Do you want to give unique, unprecedented properties to printed ink by clever ways of curing with UV?

Your profile

•    You are currently studying Applied Physics. You are looking for an internship at WO level or a graduation assignment at HBO level.
•    You find it a challenge to explore uncultivated areas and turn ideas into solutions.
•    You like to build and modify experimental setups by yourself and to do experimental research. But you are also able to draw up theoretical models and to think “out of the box” for finding breakthroughs.
•    For this assignment you are available for at least 4 months for a minimum of 4 days per week.

What’s in it for you?
•    A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
•    Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
•    Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
•    The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
•    With our company values collaboration, innovation and ownership, we strive to bring out the best in each other, expand boundaries and feel empowered to take ownership of our work.
