Bsc: Mechanical Engineering (BEP) - Modeling self-alignment of a kinematic coupling
Are you a Mechanical Engineering TU/e student looking for a BEP (Bachelor End Project)? Are you ready to determine the functionality of our model which predicts self-alignment of kinematic couplings in 6 degrees of freedom and improve it? We are looking for you!
Your assignment
Canon has developed a model to predict the self-positioning accuracy and dynamics of a kinematic coupling. Kinematic couplings are needed for reproducible and accurate positioning of print heads and other printing components. Canon wants to elevate this model to a higher level and validate it so that it becomes more useful for designers.
Possible approach for this assignment:
• Interviews with Canon designers to determine the requirements for the model.
• Literature study to determine what should be in the model.
• Understand and evaluate the model of Canon and determine if it has the right model architecture and elements in it.
• Find proven self-positioning cases in literature cases to thoroughly verify the model against these literature cases
• Make recommendations for:
o What needs to be done to improve or come to a correct model?
o Determine which verification measurements must be carried out to verify the model.
o Determine what requirements these test setups must meet to be able to verify.
This assignment serves as preparation for one or more follow‑up projects that should result in a correct and verified model with an accuracy of ≤1 µm.
You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team under supervision of an experienced mechanical designer.
Your profile
• You are currently studying mechanical engineering at the TU/e and looking for a Bachelor End Project.
• You are knowledgeable on Design Principles with an interest in modelling.
• You are able to fulfil the assignment, you are proficient in Matlab and have a solid background in solid body dynamics.
• You are available for 4~6 months for a minimum of 2 days per week in Venlo. Working remotely for the other days is possible.
• This assignment is connected to the group of Ron de Bruijn “Design for Precision Engineering” (DPE) group of the “Control Systems Technology” (CST) section of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
What’s in it for you?
• A challenging assignment and coaching by experienced mechanical designers
• Multi-disciplinary work environment in which all designers and engineers are working together in large rooms to develop digital inkjet presses for professional users
• Internship/graduation compensation of €500 per month
• Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
• The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
