Customs & Foreign Trade Compliance Consultant
24-40 hours per week, hybrid in Venlo (NL)
What You’ll Do
Our Customs & Foreign Trade Compliance team keeps our global trade flows reliable, efficient and compliant. This is all about ensuring timely, accurate and complete reporting to customs authorities, while supporting the business with expert advice on customs, foreign trade compliance and export controls.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Prepare and process import, export, and transit declarations, including follow-up and aftercare activities.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal departments and logistics service providers to ensure accurate document handling and smooth goods flows.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and audit-proof compilation of customs files, including all required administration.
- Act as point of contact for customs authorities and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and professional communication.
- Providing proactive expert advice to internal stakeholders, partners and external parties on customs matters, foreign trade compliance and export controls.
- Ensuring compliance with internal and external control processes, procedures and applicable legislation.
- Analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes and translating findings into improvements and business cases.
- Monitoring international developments, legislation and trade relations, and translating these into impact and actions for Canon Production Printing.
- Working closely with Dutch and German customs authorities, customs brokers, logistics service providers, Canon companies and internal departments such as Logistics, Purchasing, Production, Sales and R&D.
- Supporting and training users and stakeholders in processes, systems and compliance guidelines.
- Participating in the Internal Compliance Program for Security Trade Control and AEO.
Who You’ll Work With
Our international organization has a flat hierarchy, so you’ll be working with many different people in an open, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. That includes colleagues from Logistics, Purchasing, Production, Sales, R&D and other Canon companies, as well as external partners such as customs authorities (Netherlands and Germany), Chamber of commerce, external customs consultancy’s, customs brokers and logistics service providers.
What You Bring
We’re looking for a team player who meets the following requirements:
- A Vocational level (MBO+) of working and thinking in the direction of Logistics, Supply Chain.
- Certification as a licensed customs broker is a must.
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in customs, foreign trade compliance, export controls, logistics or a comparable international environment.
- Knowledge of customs regulations, customs permits, import, transit, export, country of origin, classification of goods and AEO.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify risks, opportunities and practical solutions.
- Good planning and organizing skills, with the ability to set priorities and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to operate credibly and discretely at different levels.
- A learning and continuous improvements mindset, with the motivation to stay up to date with international trade developments, legislation and regulations.
- Fluent English and Dutch skills, both spoken and written. German is a big plus.
