Equipment Engineer

40 hours per week, hybrid in Venlo (NL)

 

Your job

The Consumables & Expendables for the printers of Canon Production Printing are mostly produced in-house in our factories in Venlo. Here you will find a large diversity of factories with corresponding processes and equipment. A 'playground' for someone with a technical affinity. The factories are in different technical and economic life phases. Each phase has its own challenges. In the new ink and printhead factories, the focus is mainly on upscaling and expanding functionality. In the toner and OPC plants, the challenge is to ensure continuity for many years to come, cost-effectively.

 

What you’ll do

As an Equipment Engineer you will work on a wide range of projects in multidisciplinary teams. You are responsible for the realization and optimization of parts of our plants. You take end-to-end responsibility for the Equipment Creation Process, which goes from customer advice and specification, through design and realization, to commissioning and transfer to the maintenance organization. You will also support the operations. You will work intensively together within our internal teams and you will manage the outsourcing of the design and realization of the equipment within our CAPEX supply base.

Based on your professionalism, organizational ability and strong communication skills, you will ensure successful project completion and commissioning according to agreements, costs and schedule. Besides the intensive cooperation with the suppliers of our equipment, you also work closely with fellow Equipment Engineers, Production Engineers, Quality Engineers, Purchasing, R&D,

Facility Services and colleagues from the maintenance department. You identify possible risks and problems in time and, together with the colleagues involved, look for smart and structural solutions. As part of your work you have an eye for safety and environment and you work according to the Canon standards.

You have demonstrable skills in applying the Machinery Directive, ATEX and CE marking. You are trained to work safely in an industrial environment and preferably have a valid VCA-VOL certificate.

 

Who you’ll work with

You’ll join our Equipment Engineering & Technical Services (EE&TS-) Department — over 60 passionate professionals responsible for the design, implementation and management of production equipment. Our production factories are fitted with the most up-to-date manufacturing equipment, highly automated and optimized to consistently deliver high-quality products minimizing waste at the same time.

 

What you bring

We are looking for someone who takes initiative, a solution-oriented person with analytical and critical thinking skills. You are strong in planning and organizing your work and are a driven networker who can maintain contact with various internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following job requirements:

  • Bachelor or master degree in technical area, for example; Electrical engineering, Industrial engineering, Mechanical engineering or Mechatronics
  • Experience and/or affinity with process technology and process installations
  • Experience with project management methodologies such as PRINCE 2, IPMA or similar
  • Good command of the English language, Dutch is a nice to have.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in machine building or industrial production/process environments, supplemented with experience of working in projects
  • Preferably you have worked in a multidisciplinary work environment, where you have built up experience in designing and implementing advanced equipment
  • Willing to travel occasionally to suppliers within and outside The Netherlands

 

Mechanical Engineering requirements:

  • Design mechanical installations and constructions
  • Translate functional requirements into conceptual equipment designs
  • Verify mechanical strength calculations
  • Read, analyze, and adjust technical drawings and P&IDs
  • Apply general knowledge of process and production machinery, including mechanical–automation integration
  • Understand the full equipment lifecycle

 

Electro &Control;

 

  • Experience with (soft) PLC and SCADA systems
  • Affinity with industrial networks

•             IoT Integration: Enable real-time data collection and analysis

These can be within the Equipment Engineering department (for example switch between factories, grow towards NPI projects, or towards team lead) but also outside of it towards other positions, for example Production Engineering.
