Patent Information Professional
40 hours per week, hybrid in Venlo (NL)
The Intellectual Property team of Canon Production Printing (CPP) is worldwide responsible for the investigation, documentation and protection of CPP’s Intellectual Property, unique technologies, products, applications and design. For relevant fields of application, this team is continuously monitoring other companies in their patents and knowledge development also.
Recently, there also is a growing demand for IP landscaping where the technology of Canon Production Printing is related to our competition to benchmark Canon Production Printings technology development and help in predicting the near future of our competition.
What you’ll do
As a Patent Information Professional, you are supporting the IP generation, prosecution, litigation activities and IP clearance assessment by delivering relevant patent information to the Patent Attorneys. Part of your job is also to contribute to IP landscaping activities of the Patent Information Professionals in the IP team. To be successful you need to know what your R&D colleagues are working on. You have close contact with product development projects to discover patent issues. Based on this information you search in databases, explore and analyze relevant literature and come up with conclusions. You report your findings to the patent attorneys and/or your colleagues of the product development projects.
You have, in cooperation with the patent attorneys, an active role in portfolio management with respect to your technical areas.
You spot trends and developments in relevant technologies to extend CPP’s knowledge base to protect the Intellectual Property of CPP. Also, you support informed decisions when choosing strategies for the development of new products.
What you bring
We are looking for a pro-active professional with the ability to work independently. You have a customer-friendly mindset and strong interest in legal aspects. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following job requirements:
- Preferably a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, but we are also open for experienced candidates with a Bachelor degree
- A track record of technical skills and scientific expertise, such as experience in a Research & Development environment
- Strong analytical skills and preferably a strong affinity with software and especially digital image processing
- Capable to identify the core in very detailed information
- Affinity for technical literature searching
- Persistent, enthusiastic, and strong communicator with outstanding English language skills
Experienced patent searchers with an mechanical technical profile or equivalent, holding the Basic Patent Information Course (BPIC) certificate or equivalent are strongly invited to reply to this vacancy.
We are however also open to candidates without previous working experience within the intellectual property field. Candidates get the opportunity to obtain the certificates at the GO Institute: "Patent Information Courses."
