HBO: Chemics/Process Engineering - Process optimization in the process drum production line

Date: 22 Apr 2024

Location: NL

Company: Canon Production Printing

  • HBO: Chemics/Process Engineering - Process optimization in the process drum production line

Are you an HBO student looking for an internship? Would you like to get acquainted with a variety of processes? Then we are looking for you!

    Your assignment

The process drum factory is a small-scale factory, where products are made piece by piece. The processes range from machining processes, coating and curing and various furnace steps to CVD (chemical vapor deposition). In various measuring steps, some of which are of our own design, the properties of the drum are checked. The product is a drum 36 cm wide with approximately 7500 tracks, each of which can be individually tensioned via the built-in electronics. On this drum the image is "written" in the printer.

You will become part of the team and can become acquainted with the various process steps. Specifically, you will be researching the coating of the epoxy. Due to changes in the composition of the epoxy, the process is no longer optimal. Using a design of experiment (DOE) method, you will determine which setting is optimal for the process. Important parameters include the temperature and rotational speed of the drum during coating. You will make a link between the quality of the coating, the curing characteristics and the viscosity of the material as a function of temperature.

Depending on your interest, it is also possible to do research on optimization of the process flow in the plant or the machining processes.
