Can you help us reduce waste streams and our ecological footprint at Protoshop?
The assignment – Reducing waste streams and ecological footprint in the part production process
At Canon Production Printing Netherlands (CPPN), our Protoshop department specializes in manufacturing high-quality plastic and metal components. We use a wide range of techniques such as sheet metal fabrication, turning, milling, and 3D printing to support our R&D projects with prototype parts for testing and engine setups. Innovation, cost-efficiency and sustainability are at the core of everything we do.
We are looking for a motivated intern to join us in improving the sustainability of our production processes. Your main objective will be to investigate where material waste and environmental impact occur and propose feasible solutions to minimize them.
What will you be doing?
As an intern, you will work on analyzing our current production processes, focusing on material consumption, waste streams and energy consumption. You map out where waste occurs and make proposals for improvement aimed at sustainability.
You can think of:
• Further optimization of cutting and cutting layouts to reduce residual material.
• Comparison of different machining strategies and their impact on waste.
• Reuse or recycling options (internal or external).
• Research into more environmentally friendly materials s.a. coolants and lubricants.
• Analysis of energy consumption per machine or process step.
• But also real estate aspects like power consumption, cooling/heating, air pressure and exhaust systems.
You will work together with plan-office, work-preparation and operators to test your findings and make workable recommendations. Next to them, our environmental experts at CPPN could also guide you throughout the assignment.
What do we expect from you?
We are looking for a:
- Bachelor’s or vocational-level (HBO/MBO) student in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a sustainability-related technical field.
- Someone with a strong interest in manufacturing and sustainability.
- Analytical and proactive person with good communication skills.
What’s in it for you?
• A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
• Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
• Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
• The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
• With our company values collaboration, innovation and ownership, we strive to bring out the best in each other, expand boundaries and feel empowered to take ownership of our work.
