Patent Attorney

40 hours per week, hybrid in Venlo (NL)

 

What you’ll do

As a European patent attorney, you will contribute to the tasks of the IP-team within the CPP organization, which are advising the management in all patent matters and finding solutions to avoid hindrance from patents of competitors. More specifically, the most important tasks of the patent attorney are:

 

  • Drafting patent applications and obtaining patents on inventions of CPP employees
  • evaluating patents of competitors as far as they are relevant to new developments within R&D
  • portfolio management with respect to patents in technical areas assigned to you
  • challenging patents of competitors before the European Patent Office
  • collaborating with the legal team of the Legal&IP department in legal matters involving IP, for example agreements with IP content.

 

Who you’ll work with

The Intellectual Property team (IP-team) is part of the Legal&IP department of Canon Production Printing (CPP) and is responsible for maintaining and executing CPP’s IP strategy that fully supports the business and R&D strategies of CPP and Canon Inc.

 

What you’ll bring

We are looking for a pro-active professional with the ability to work independently. You have a customer-friendly mindset, strong interest in legal aspects and you are capable to identify the core in detailed information. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following job requirements: 

 

  • Master degree in Physics, Electromechanical Engineering or similar
  • Qualified European Patent Attorney (EQE passed)
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience
  • A track record of technical skills and scientific expertise, such as experience in a Research & Development environment
  • Strong analytical skills and preferably a strong affinity with software and especially digital image processing
  • Persistent, enthusiastic, and strong communicator with outstanding English language skills  
  • Qualification as a Dutch patent attorney is desired, not mandatory
