Are you interested in setting up a computer vision system? Do you like applying computer vision in a practical setting? Are you able to make the next step in our automated quality checks? Then we are looking for you!

Your assignment
Canon Production Printing (CPP) designs and manufactures both inkjet and toner printers. The toner printers use an Organic PhotoConductor (OPC), which is the initial step in forming the image. This OPC is made up of multiple thin layers of organic material. We ensure these layers are flawless by making them in a clean environment. Plus, our operators meticulously check every OPC for defects. They sort out if it's a fiber, dust, or something else. Any defect can mess up print quality, which is why we stick to strict guidelines.
The problem is that visual classification varies a lot by person, so errors are pretty common.

To reduce dependency on individuals, CPP is exploring whether classification by a computer, using machine learning techniques, can be used to automatically identify these defects. So, we started collecting images along with details of the defects in them.

There are several dozen types of defects and tens of thousands of labeled images to work with. Your task is to build a machine learning model (like CNN) that can identify defects in an OPC from these images. Plus, you'll need to tweak the model's parameters to boost its performance. The goal here is to see how well vision models can really perform.
