WO: Internship Chemistry - Connecting the UVgel dots: from kinetics to physical properties

Date: 4 Oct 2024

Location: NL

Company: Canon Production Printing

Canon

Are you a WO student who is looking for a graduation assignment? Are you ready to change our way of working in ink development? We are looking for you!

Your assignment
UV-curable inks have been developed for the graphic market allowing numerous highly valued applications. Canon has been very successful with the development of the UVgel technology that is utilised in the Colorado printer family.
Within Canon we have the ambition to transform our way of working from pragmatic ink screening to a model based way-of-working. Together with the University of Amsterdam we are therefore working on complex kinetic models that capture all the chemical processes taking place during the conversion of monomer to polymer. These models are currently based on simplistic ink recipes and differ tremendously from our real inks. In order to bridge the gap, we are looking for enthusiastic students who are intrigued by the complexity of free-radical polymerization. Students who can set-up a program to bridge the gap between the simplistic model-ink and a real ink by thinking of smart experiments. A student who is not afraid to run computer simulations and at the same time perform analytical tests such as NMR or IR-spectroscopy.

If you are willing to cross borders, we are looking for you. You will get the possibility to work in a professional environment in a large company and network with many professionals in diverse fields.

Your profile
•    You have a research background in polymer chemistry
•    You are experienced with materials characterization, for instance by NMR, IR, rheometry
•    You have experience with Matlab coding
•    You are a result-driven and self-motivated team player
•    You are available for 5-9 months for a minimum of 4 days per week.

What’s in it for you?
•    A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
•    Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
•    Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
•    The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
•    With our company values collaboration, innovation and ownership, we strive to bring out the best in each other, expand boundaries and feel empowered to take ownership of our work.
