WO: Internship Mechanical/Physics - Thermal modelling and verification of media during Curing
Date: 29 Oct 2024
Location: NL
Company: Canon Production Printing
Are you a WO student, looking for an internship assignment? Do you want to work on a challenge at an international high tech company? We are looking for you!
Your assignment
Canon production printing (CPP) develops printers for professional users, among which is a family of wide format roll-to-roll printers such as the Colorado series. These printers use UV irradiation to polymerize ink that is deposited on a substrate. The UV irradiation heats up the media which impacts the final quality of the ink. As R&D department we are constantly innovating to make faster printers while the print-quality remains within our customers limits. Currently model based approaches are implemented in our project environment to understand the influence of the UV-curing method and ink composition on the final properties of the ink-layer. A high quality thermal model is a significant building block for speeding up our print process development.
Your challenges will be:
• Understanding the temperature behaviour during printing.
• Build a thermal model that cooperates with existing models.
• Matching the thermal model with experimental data.
• Provide relevant insight on our process and various printing-media used.
• Demonstrate and advise on how to implement your findings into our experimental procedures
Your profile
• You are studying MSc Mechanical Engineering , Applied Physics or a similar study with relevant courses
• You enjoy combining experimental and computational work
• You have experience with programming in MATLab and/or Python
• You are eager to learn or improve your thermal modelling knowledge
• You are an open minded, independent, team oriented and inquisitive person.
• Looking for an internship assignment of 5-9 months
We offer
• You will gain experience in working in professional environment with skilled coaching.
• Internship/Graduation fee up to €500,- per month.
• Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’.
• Good growth opportunities within CPP, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with.
• With our company values collaboration, innovation and ownership, we strive to bring out the best in each other, expand boundaries and feel empowered to take ownership of our work.
