WO: internship organic/polymer chemistry - Can we use click chemistry to improve inkjet inks?
Are you a WO student who is looking for a graduation assignment? Are you enthusiastic about improving the sustainability of UV-cured inks using your interest/expertise in click chemistry and polymer chemistry? Then we are looking for you!

Your assignment
Canon UVgel technology is specially developed for advanced printing based on UV curing principles. This technology retains the advantages of prevailing printer technologies, while eliminating many of the compromises. One of the successful products is our lately released Colorado series. In the context of sustainability, more eco-friendly inks are desired. For this, we are investigating alternatives to acrylic chemistries. With a new chemistry, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our inks and broaden the application fields of our products ranging from high-quality graphics to sustainable packaging. This graduation assignment is to investigate the possibility of using click chemistry (e.g. thiol-ene or oxime click chemistry) to produce functional coatings on PVC or paper. You will evaluate ink stability using rheometry, curing rate and recyclability with techniques like IR or NMR spectroscopy and evaluate the mechanical properties of your coatings. You will correlate the properties of your ink and coatings to the properties of the components. You will also get the possibility to experience the working environment in a larger company and network with many professionals in diverse fields.

Your profile
•    You have a research background in chemical synthesis, preferably polymer synthesis or click chemistry
•    You are experienced with materials characterization, for instance by NMR, rheometry, DSC or IR spectroscopy
•    You are a result-driven and self-motivated team player
•    You are available for 5-9 months for a minimum of 4 days per week.

What’s in it for you?
•    A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
•    Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
•    Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
•    The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
•    With our company values collaboration, innovation and ownership, we strive to bring out the best in each other, expand boundaries and feel empowered to take ownership of our work.
